Meet Brett Hatfield | Tampa Wedding Videographer & Filmmaker
Hello — I’m Brett. I started filming weddings full-time at 21 in 2007.
Since then, I’ve documented more than 700 weddings worldwide, with most of my work focused throughout Tampa Bay, Clearwater Beach, and Naples.
Some couples searching for a Naples wedding videographer also discover my work because I regularly travel throughout Florida’s Gulf Coast.
And somewhere along the way, I realized something:
The weddings that feel like movies aren’t accidents. They're built with intention.
Most wedding films today are fast highlight reels built around trends. I approach weddings differently.
My background includes directing and producing a full collegiate cheer docuseries completely solo — shaping real people, real pressure, and real emotion into long-form stories that carry weight. That experience sharpened how I see weddings.
Because weddings move fast.
There are no scripts.
No second takes.
No resets.
But there is story everywhere.
I’m constantly watching for reactions, tension, humor, and subtle moments — the details that make your film feel alive decades from now.
Who I Am Outside the Camera
You’re not just hiring someone to film your wedding — you’re choosing the person who will be by your side for 8–10 hours on one of the most important days of your life.
After filming a podcast at The West Events, the team challenged me to answer a few questions while jumping rope in a three-piece suit. No edits. No retakes. Just real personality.
This short clip gives you a glimpse of who I am outside of weddings — someone who takes the work seriously, but not himself.
Because connection matters.
And the energy around you on your wedding day matters even more.
Why hire Hatfield Productions as your Tampa wedding videographer?:
I film weddings as real stories rather than highlight reels. After filming more than 700 weddings worldwide and over 300 across Tampa Bay, I focus on authentic vows, natural moments, and cinematic storytelling.
Couples who want a wedding film that feels honest and timeless — not trendy and disposable — tend to connect with this approach.
How is your wedding filmmaking different?
Most wedding videos focus on fast-paced highlights and moments that are all the same. Most weddings are random jump cuts set to music. My films are built around real vows, speeches, and unscripted moments so your story unfolds naturally. The goal is a film that still feels meaningful decades from now. I can look back from a wedding I filmed 12 years ago and it still holds true value bc the vows were personal, the wedding toasts were unique etc. I never create the boring stuff you see online.
How many weddings have you filmed?
I’ve filmed more than 700 weddings worldwide, including over 300 throughout Tampa Bay and Florida’s Gulf Coast.
Do you work alone?
Yes. I film weddings solo to maintain consistency and a calm presence throughout the day. Couples often tell me they appreciate having one person who knows their story from beginning to end. I film weddings solo to maintain consistency and a calm presence throughout the day. Couples appreciate working with one filmmaker who understands their story from beginning to end. Filming solo also ensures the entire film has a consistent visual style and storytelling approach.
Why does experience matter in wedding filmmaking?
Wedding days are chaotic and messy - You want someone that knows how to film in that environment, someone that can make sure the bride looks magazine worthy no matter what. I can walk into a room and mentally scan the room and create 10 shots mentally. This is why so many brides over the years have said your work looks movie like - I also help plan realistic timelines for free so my couples can have that same look and luxury feel
How do you approach filming vows and speeches?
Clear audio is the foundation of a meaningful wedding film. Vows and speeches often become the emotional core of the story. Audio is the #1 key for a true masterpiece. So Vows and speeches are about 75% of your film. For vows I have a tiny wireless recorder inside the brides dress - another lapel on the groom and the officiant. I am plugged into the DJ system via XLR for professional grade sound. Outside ceremonies always sound best when there is a wireless handheld microphone. Most cheaper DJs will put a lapel on the officiant and it will cut in and out and buzz because those lapels are made for smaller indoor spaces. If you’re a bride reading this its a must to have a large handheld microphone that everyone speaks into that source.
Where do you film weddings?
I film weddings throughout Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Naples, and across Florida’s Gulf Coast. I also travel regularly for destination weddings throughout the United States and internationally.
My Approach to Wedding Filmmaking
Wedding filmmaking, at its best, is about preserving real life — not staging it. I always tell my couples you’re going to put your wedding dress on anyways - why not do it in the flattering light? This is the same mentality for bridal prep - it’s my job to make brides look and feel confident on their wedding day.
I approach each wedding the way a documentary filmmaker approaches a story: by observing closely and allowing moments to unfold naturally. Real emotion cannot be scripted, and the strongest wedding films come from genuine interactions rather than posed scenes.
After filming more than 700 weddings worldwide, I’ve learned that the most meaningful films are built from authentic vows, unscripted reactions, and the subtle moments that happen in between the big events. These details give a wedding film depth and emotional weight that lasts long after the day is over.
My goal is to create films that feel cinematic without feeling artificial — stories that remain powerful decades from now because they reflect who you truly were at the beginning of your marriage.
Every decision — from camera movement to audio recording to editing — is made with that long-term story in mind.
