Meet Brett Hatfield | Tampa Wedding Videographer & Filmmaker

Naples Wedding Videographer

I’m Brett Hatfield, a Tampa wedding videographer who has filmed more than 700 weddings since 2007, personally directing and filming every wedding I accept as a solo filmmaker.

Outside of weddings, I created a collegiate cheerleading docuseries following the championship seasons of the University of South Florida All-Girl team — capturing real pressure and emotion and shaping them into cinematic stories.

That same documentary approach guides how I film weddings: quietly observing the moments that make your day feel like a film you’ll want to watch for the rest of your life.

Every wedding on my website was personally filmed by me.

There are no scripts.
No second takes.
No resets.

Every moment happens once — and it deserves to be captured that way.

Who I Am Outside the Camera

You’re not just hiring someone to film your wedding — you’re choosing the person who will be by your side for 8–10 hours on one of the most important days of your life.

After filming a podcast at The West Events, the team challenged me to answer a few questions while jumping rope in a three-piece suit. No edits. No retakes. Just real personality.

This short clip gives you a glimpse of who I am outside of weddings — someone who takes the work seriously, but not himself.

Because connection matters.
And the energy around you on your wedding day matters even more.

Why Hire Hatfield Productions as Your Tampa Wedding Videographer?

I film weddings as real stories rather than highlight reels. After filming more than 700 weddings worldwide and over 300 across Tampa Bay, my focus is on authentic vows, natural moments, and cinematic storytelling.

Couples who want a wedding film that feels honest and timeless — not trendy and disposable — tend to connect with this approach.

How Is Your Wedding Filmmaking Different?

Many wedding videos rely on fast-paced highlight edits where moments blend together through quick cuts set to music.

My films are built around real vows, speeches, and unscripted moments, allowing the story of the day to unfold naturally. The goal is to create a film that still feels meaningful decades from now.

I can revisit a wedding I filmed twelve years ago and it still holds emotional value because the vows were personal, the toasts were heartfelt, and the moments were real. That is the difference between a momentary highlight video and a lasting wedding film.

Do You Work Alone?

Yes. I film weddings solo to maintain consistency and a calm presence throughout the day.

Couples often appreciate having one filmmaker who understands their story from beginning to end. Filming solo also ensures the entire film maintains a consistent visual style and storytelling approach, rather than feeling like footage from multiple different perspectives.

Why Does Experience Matter in Wedding Filmmaking?

Wedding days can be unpredictable. Having an experienced filmmaker means knowing how to adapt quickly while still creating beautiful imagery.

After filming hundreds of weddings, I can walk into a room, scan the lighting and layout, and immediately visualize several strong shots before the camera even starts rolling. This instinct is developed through years of experience working in constantly changing environments.

Many couples have told me my films feel “movie-like,” and that quality comes from understanding lighting, composition, and how to capture people in a flattering and natural way. I also help couples plan realistic timelines, which can make a huge difference in achieving that cinematic look.

How Do You Approach Filming Vows and Speeches?

Clear audio is the foundation of a meaningful wedding film. Vows and speeches often become the emotional core of the story.

For that reason, I use multiple audio sources during the ceremony and reception. A discreet recorder is placed on the couple, another microphone is used on the officiant, and I connect directly into the DJ’s sound system for professional-quality audio.

Outdoor ceremonies often sound best when a handheld microphone is used so that both partners and the officiant speak into the same source. This helps ensure vows are captured clearly and consistently.

Strong audio allows the final wedding film to feel immersive and emotional, rather than just a visual recap of the day.

Where Do You Film Weddings?

I film weddings throughout Tampa, Clearwater, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, Naples, and across Florida’s Gulf Coast.

I also travel regularly for destination weddings throughout the United States and internationally.

My Approach to Wedding Filmmaking

Wedding filmmaking, at its best, is about preserving real life rather than staging it.

I often tell my couples: you’re going to put your wedding dress on anyway — why not do it in the most flattering light possible? The same idea applies throughout the day. My job is to help brides look and feel confident while capturing moments naturally.

I approach weddings much like a documentary filmmaker approaches a story — by observing closely and allowing moments to unfold without forcing them.

Real emotion cannot be scripted. The strongest wedding films come from genuine interactions rather than staged scenes.

After filming more than 700 weddings worldwide, I’ve learned that the most meaningful films are built from authentic vows, unscripted reactions, and the subtle moments that happen between the major events.

These details give a wedding film depth and emotional weight that lasts long after the wedding day is over.

My goal is to create films that feel cinematic without feeling artificial — stories that remain powerful decades from now because they reflect who you truly were at the beginning of your marriage.

Every decision — from camera movement to audio recording to editing — is made with that long-term story in mind.
